Song Joong Ki has received many compliments from Korean netizens when he dared to respond to controversies related to Vincenzo.
During an interview on May 3, Song Joong Ki was asked about the controversy surrounding China-made bibimbap in Vincenzo. Without shying away, the actor said, “As the film’s main actor, I sincerely apologize to viewers who were disappointed by this incident.”
The actor added, “Unfortunately I did not pay attention to the Chinese brand. However, this is undeniable. When the controversy broke out, I tried to regain the trust of the audience by completing Vincenzo well. I sincerely apologize to the viewers who were disappointed. Of course, I’m not representing Studio Dragon, you can get in touch with them”.
Previously, in an episode, Vincenzo (Song Joong Ki) and Hong Cha Young (Jeon Yeo Bin) had lunch with bibimbap. However, this is not a Korean domestic product. It is imported from China, the mark on the package is also in Chinese.
Netizens gave a lot of praise to Song Joong Ki’s statement. He is the first actor to apologize to the audience for the promotion of foreign brands in Korean films. He also doesn’t seem too afraid to offend investors or the fan community in China.
Vincenzo aired the last episode last night, May 2. According to Nielsen Korea, the last episode of the series achieved an average rating nationwide of 14.6% and the highest rating of 16.2%, taking first place in the time slot on all channels – including public broadcast networks. Vincenzo became the 6th highest-rated movie in tvN history, behind Crash Landing on You, Goblin, Reply 1988, Mr. Sunshine, and Mr. Queen.
