Song Joong Ki and Kim Ji Won are getting replaced in “Arthdal Chronicles 2” and netizens are unhappy.
On April 20th, a sudden change in the casting of “Arthdal Chronicles 2” was announced and drew much attention. Accordingly, in season 2, the main characters will no longer be played by Song Joong Ki and Kim Ji Won. Instead, Lee Joon Gi and Shin Se Kyung have reportedly been cast as the male and female leads.
tvN’s “Arthdal Chronicles” is an ancient historical fantasy drama about mythical heroes set in a fictional land called Arth. Despite its high production cost, the first season came under controversy and recorded lower-than-expected viewership ratings due to poor visual effects, unconvincing plot, and plagiarism accusations. Although season 1 drew mixed reviews, “Arthdal Chronicles” was still greenlit for another season.
Netizens are wondering if the underwhelming performance of season 1 caused some core members of the cast and crew to not return in season 2. In addition to Song Joong Ki and Kim Ji Won not reprising their roles, director Kim Won Seok also withdrew from the project. Both Lee Joon Gi and Shin Se Kyung are now in talks to play Eunseom and Tanya in season 2.
