Controversies have sparked following the 2022 MMA Awards.
On November 26, the Melon Music Awards (MMA 2022) officially took place. Many famous idol groups gathered at the event such as (G)I-DLE, IVE, LE SSERAFIM, TXT, ENHYPEN, NewJeans…
However, after MMA 2022 ended, controversies surrounding this awards ceremony has been attracting much attention on social networks.
IVE’s VCR is criticized for plagiarizing Red Velvet’s MV
IVE’s VCR at this year’s MMA caused controversy for being too similar to Red Velvet’s “One Of These Nights” MV. Notably, Red Velvet’s song and MV is meant to pay tribute to the victims of the Sewol ferry disaster in 2014. Therefore, fans are angry at IVE’s company for disrespecting the victims.
New Jeans’ controversial dance break
New Jeans’ dance break performance drew mixed reactions as many viewers were disappointed with the overly simple choreography.
New Jeans members’ dance was also commented to lack coordination and synchronization. However, there were still opinions defending New Jeans, saying that it was a good performance for a rookie.
Most idols at MMA 2022 used Live AR
When the setlist of the 2022 MMA was leaked, many idol groups were discovered to have used Live AR instead of actually singing live.
AR is a recording with full instrument sound and the singer’s voice. Live AR includes these sounds and also the singer’s breathing. Using Live AR will make the audience believe that the singers are singing live on stage. In contrast, MR (Music Recorded) is a recording with only the sound of the instrument. Artists who use MR sing live and be supported by backing vocals.
Idol groups that used Live AR at the MMA 2022 are New Jeans, LE SSERAFIM, (G)I-DLE, IVE, TXT,… Meanwhile, artists who actually sang live using MR are MONSTA X, 10CM, Im Young Woong, and Melomance. This makes many people disappointed because MMA is a major music event but most artists did not sing live.
