K-POP GLOBAL MAP Changes In 2023 With The Emergence Of Gen 4 Girl Groups

BLACKPINK is the most famous K-pop artist, while NewJeans ranks the highest among fourth-generation girl groups

Space Oddity’s K-pop Radar announced ‘2023 K-POP GLOBAL MAP’. The YouTube channel “K-pop Radar” released the first session of its content “K-pop Radar Conference” on November 15th.

K-pop Radar collected and analyzed YouTube views of several K-pop artists within the past year from August 2022 to August 2023.

As a result, BLACKPINK ranked No.1 in TOP 10 K-pop artists in terms of views with 13.47%, followed by BTS in second place with 10.37%. No.2 to No.10 are TWICE (4.21%), NewJeans (3.89%), Stray Kids (3.43%), (G)I-DLE (2.87%), IVE (2.86%), Seventeen (2.43%), LE SSERAFIM (2.39%) and Psy (1.98%).

Among them, the appearance of NewJeans at No.4 surprised many people as the girl group showed exceptionally good performance despite being a fourth-generation rookie. 

In the Rising K-pop Rookie category, LE SSERAFIM achieved 1st place, followed by H1-KEY, Xdinary Heroes, TEMPEST, and IVE ranking from No.2 to No.5.

In the chart of K-POP’s Popularity By Countries, Korea placed No.1 with 15.71%. Japan is the second largest market with 7.89%, followed by No.3 Indonesia, No.4 India, and No.5 the US. Other countries in TOP 10 are Thailand, Mexico, the Philippines, Argentina and Brazil. 

In particular, TOP 5 most famous groups in Japan are BTS, TWICE, Stray Kids, SEVENTEEN, BLACKPINK, and IVE. In the US, the K-pop Wave is led by BTS, BLACKPINK and Stray Kids while TWICE, NewJeans, TXT are gaining more attention.

The 2023 K-POP GLOBAL MAP is based on three keywords, such as “Consumption of K-pop as a pop genre”, “New chapter’s leaders: fourth-generation girl groups”, and “K-pop, legacy and making history”.
