Jennie’s debut drama “The Idol” receives unusual reviews after its Cannes premiere, “It is straight up pornographic”

HBO’s drama “The Idol”, which draws attention as the debut drama of BLACKPINK Jennie, has been released.

On May 22nd (local time), the world premiere of HBO’s drama “The Idol” was held at the Palais des Festivals Lumiere Grand Theater in Cannes, France.

Jennie, a member of BLACKPINK, stepped on the red carpet in an off-shoulder dress. She expressed her joy of entering Cannes by sharing warm hugs with The Weeknd, co-producer and actor of “The Idol”.

Starring Canadian pop star The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) as the main character, “The Idol” depicts the relationships surrounding a rising pop idol and the music industry.

In addition to The Weeknd, American actor Johnny Depp’s daughter Lily-Rose Depp and Australian singer-songwriter Troye Sivan also appear in this HBO series. BLACKPINK Jennie plays the role of Dyanne, a backup dancer for the female lead Jocelyn, who dreams of becoming a pop star. The drama was directed by “Euphoria” director Sam Levinson.

Immediately after the premiere of “The Idol” on the 22nd, reviews on the drama poured out on Twitter and various social media. The U.S. magazine Variety said, “Revenge porn photos of bodily fluids on Lily Rose Depp’s face, masturbation with ice cubes, nightclub-owning scam artists and vile Hollywood sycophants populated the first two episodes of Sam Levinson’s ‘The Idol.’”

A Twitter user who often posts about entertainment news drew attention with her detailed review of “The Idol”. She said, “Ep 2 is straight up pornographic there’s an entire 10 minute scene of The Weeknd talking dirty to Lily while she fingers herself for him, then he tells her to suck his c-ck and she gives him head”, adding “The worst part is that Sam Levinson originally wanted that scene to be longer too.”

She summarized episode 1, saying “In episode 1 Lily is naked shooting her album cover, and a intimacy coordinator tries to intervene because it wasn’t approved, so her managers lock him in a bathroom and continue shooting her nude”, adding “And yes, they show the photo of Lily with actual cum on her face in the show. The Weeknd tries to convince her to make it her album cover.”

When asked about Jennie’s role, she said, “She’s Lily’s friend/back up dancer who eventually Lily’s shady team tries to replace Lily with after she has breakdowns and can’t seem to perform.”

In fact, it is known that Jennie appears for about 5 to 10 minutes in episodes 1 and 2 released at the Cannes Premiere event.

“The Idol”, which surprised everyone by releasing a high-level trailer earlier, is once again at the center of attention with its shocking setting right after the Cannes Premiere. The 6-episode drama “The Idol” will air on HBO on the 4th of next month.
