“Hospital Playlist” Yoo Yeon Seok returns with “The Interest of Love,” off to a rocky start when faced with the sensational Trot contest “Mr. Trot 2”
The series struggles with rating in the second episode due to “mass migration” to “Mr. Trot 2.”
“The Interest of Love” is a JTBC drama series starring Yoo Yeon Seok who returns to the small screen after “Hospital Playlist.” The series has a choice rating of 3.124% for a mid-week cable-TV series but suffered a decline to 1.9% in the second episode despite many viewers considered it of choice quality.
The main reason is the airing of TV Chosun’s Trot singer contest “Mr. Trot 2”, a sensational TV series whose last episode of season 1 reached 35.7% in rating. “Mr. Trot 2” showed prospects with over 20% rating from the start and possibly will create a “Trot Fever” for the coming time. Therefore, “The Interest of Love” is going to be affected in the long run.
“The Interest of Love” is a romantic story of four strangers who stumble across one another at the Youngpo branch of KCU Bank. Ha Sang Su (Yoo Yeon Seok) pursues a normal life with happiness in stability. When love comes, his life becomes chaotic. The woman he falls for is Ahn Su Yeong (Moon Ga Young), who, on the contrary, believes love is transient. The other two are Park Mi Gyeong (Keum Sae Rok) and Jeong Jong Hyun (Jung Ga Ram). Whereas Mi Gyeong comes from an affluent family with strength and decisiveness, Jong Hyun was born into a struggling life and is trying to become a police. Four people are four different shades who cross paths and fall in love with their direct-opposites.
After two episodes, “The Interest of Love” shows a simple and down-to-earth plot progressing at a slow pace that does not get involved in everyday drama, which reminds viewers of the JTBC’s “My Liberation Notes.” The slow pace combined with poetic, wonderful sceneries lays out healing scenes, perfect for the year-end period.
The main couple Yoo Yeon Seok and Moon Ga Young shows quick development without many troubles along the way but still manages to move the audience. Yoo Yeon Seok’s acting is praised to be “crazy” good with close attention to details, his eyes and gestures, which can express his sincerity and internal longings.
All in all, “The Interest of Love” is a high quality piece of work that is refined from acting to the plot. Without a formidable competition such as “Mr. Trot 2,” the series would have a much better prospect.
