“A rookie actress who performed alongside Oscar winner Youn Yuh-jung”… “Pachinko” Kim Min-Ha is receiving lots of compliments from foreign media

Foreign media continues to praise global rookie Kim Min-ha.

Kim Min-ha now is captivating viewers by revealing an intense and overwhelming presence as a young Seon-ja in the Apple TV+ original series ‘Pachinko‘.

Based on the Min Jin Lee’s bestselling book of the same name, ‘Pachinko‘ is a story that begins with forbidden love, and depicts an unforgettable chronicle of war and peace, love and parting, victory and judgment, traveling back and forth between Korea, Japan and the United States.

Kim Min-ha played Seon-ja when she was young between the ages of 16 and 22. She perfectly embodies the power of Seon-ja,  a quietly resilient young woman who helps her mother run a boarding house during the Japanese occupation of Korea. Kim Min-ha, who perfectly created Seon-ja, the main character of three characters, with her own acting color, along with great actress Youn Yuh-jung and child actress Jeon Yu-na, are receiving favorable reviews from domestic as well as foreign media.

The Hollywood Reporter, an American media outlet, said, “Minha Kim expresses the core idea of a series that talks about the power to persist in two cultures where men hold power. It is surprising that she accepts her youth weighed down by the weight of life and changes the miserable reality with determination.” The New York Times praised: “The main character, the indomitable Sunja, is played with equal grace by the newcomer Minha Kim as a young wife and mother and by the Oscar-winning Yuh-Jung Youn (“Minari”) as a long-suffering matriarch.”

Kim Min-ha also received many other compliments, such as:  “Kim Min-ha shows the determination of a young Seon-ja with her delicate acting” (FORBES), “Kim Min-ha skillfully drew Seon-ja, a survivor of the era, and showed both the weak and strong side of the character” (INDIE WIRE), “Rookie Kim Min-ha rose to the star of the drama by depicting the process of Seon-ja going through puberty and becoming an adult. Kim Min-ha’s strong and hopeful acting makes the drama not as bleak as it was of the times” (THE PLAYLIST) .

Rolling Stone said, “Pachinko” is essentially the first screen role for both Yu-na Jeon and Minha Kim, and they hold the screen just as effortlessly as their revered septuagenarian counterpart. And their mannerisms are perfectly in sync, so that when one Sunja smiles, or cries, it instantly conjures up memories of the others doing the same.
