TWICE achieved something even BLACKPINK couldn’t with new album despite poor digital performance

TWICE’s new album “Formula Of Love: O+T=<3” is doing pretty well in the US market.

TWICE‘s recent comeback faced a lot of controversy, as its digital music achievement was reportedly poor, resulting in the group’s position on Korean charts falling behind its juniors’.  However, TWICE still gained impressive achievements in the US market.

On November 22, Billboard announced the Billboard 200 chart (BB200) for the week (from November 21 to November 27). Accordingly, TWICE‘s album “Formula Of Love: O+T = <3” debuted at No.3 on the BB200.  Figures from Nielsen Music show that the album sold a total of 66,000 units, of which 58,000 were pure sales (CD and digital), and 8,000 SEA units (converted from 12 million streams).

The above achievement helped TWICE break their own record reaching its highest rank at Billboard 200, after getting No.6 position with the album “Taste Of Love” released this summer.  This is also a remarkable jump for the JYP girl group. Last year, the group reached No.72 with “Eyes Wide Open,” and No.200 with “More & More.”  This year, it has climbed straight to the top 3 of Billboard’s prestigious album chart.

“Formula Of Love” O+T = <3” becomes the album with the highest ranking among K-pop girl groups on Billboard 200 in 2021. TWICE has also become the first Korean girl group to have 2 albums on the Billboard 200 (“Taste of Love” and “Formula Of Love: O+T = <3”).

TWICE’s good news on Billboard 200 is now a sort of comfort for the Once community. On the stage of “Music Core” on Nov 20th and “Inkigayo” on Nov 21st, TWICE lost the #1 cup to IU due to their low digital scores. Many netizens on online communities also expressed their shock due to TWICE’s failure in terms of digital sales. Even though their physical sales is huge, TWICE still cannot get as many wins on weekly music shows like they did back in their golden days.

Some netizens commented:

  • TWICE recently lost their heat in Korea, but is rising in the U.S.
  • If this is what you guys call a flop, I want to be like this too. Reaching #3 on Billboard 200 is not easy!
  • TWICE has received dozens of Daesangs. They have gone past their golden time, which is why they are not as viral as in the past, it’s not that big of a deal.
  • The fact that fans still help them achieve those numbers despite such frequent comebacks proves that their fandom is still strong.
  • From #200 to #3, what a ride. This year is still a success to TWICE. Apart from Billboard 200, they also debuted on Hot 100. I’m proud.
  • Their physical sales also come from their fans, not their company. Why are the antis so butthurt about this.
