As active as they are, BLACKPINK, BTS or EXO are sometimes treated unfairly. The fact that they went home empty-hand at music award ceremonies once created a wave of anger in the fandoms.

Seoul Music Awards 2020 (SMA 2020) once became the center of controversy among the netizens. Specifically, a large number of fans of the BLACKPINK have denounced SMA 2020 blatantly rigging the Bonsang award.
In 2020, BLACKPINK has made great contributions, achieving high scores with an overwhelming number of albums sold. In the summary of the top 10 Bonsang award-winning groups, the girls hold the 4th place on the chart after BTS, IZ*ONE and EXO. However, BLACKPINK did not receive this award.
The organizers gave the Bonsang award to 12 artists, including BTS, Taeyeon, Super Junior, EXO, TWICE, Red Velvet, NU’EST, MONSTA X, MAMAMOO, Chungha, Paul Kim, and NCT Dream. The final announced result was different from the summary table. The audiences said that it was because of BLACKPINK’s absence so the organizers didn’t give them the award. At the Asia Artist Award 2020 (AAA 2020), BLACKPINK’s fans were once again outraged because the group’s achievements were transferred to someone else. When announcing the Potential Singer Award for IZ*ONE, the host introduced, “This is the girl group with the highest first-week album sales.”
In fact, BLACKPINK’s The Album released in October 2020 officially broke the previous record of IZ*ONE. This made BLINKs extremely angry and they demanded the organizers to apologize to the girls. In addition, BLACKPINK also did not win any awards at AAA 2020.

Asia Artist Awards 2019 (AAA 2019) is also a controversial award ceremony. Unlike every year, instead of only 1 prestigious Daesang, AAA 2019 has 4 Daesangs. The final results announced include Song of the Year, Singer of the Year, Performance of the Year, Album of the Year, belonging to Red Velvet, TWICE, GOT7, and SEVENTEEN respectively. Thus, BTS has gone home with no awards at AAA 2019 despite numerous outstanding achievements in both digital music and albums sales.
The public is constantly criticizing AAA 2019 because everyone who attends has an award to take home. While BTS owns a huge number of sales with the album “Map of the Soul: Persona” and is the only group to achieve a Perfect All-kill in the digital segment, the organizers have unreasonably takes the award away from them.
EXO
Mnet Asian Music Awards 2017 (MAMA 2017) is hated by EXO-Ls for their lack of fairness with EXO. The excellent SM boy group was nominated for 19 fan-vote categories and led in 5 categories, but they only won 1 award. This made EXO-Ls feel frustrated because their votes has become meaningless.
When holding the Daesang Album of the Year trophy in their hands, the boys couldn’t hold back their tears. Even though they only won 1 out of the top 5, they are still grateful to the fans and hope to see each other again next year. However, 2017 MAMA was the last time EXO attended.
People are also angry because, in the previous years, MAMA would let rookie groups perform first and then seniors’ turn. But at MAMA 2017, fans said that the organizers were disrespectful when EXO’s performance order was ahead of juniors.’
After a year of active activities and dedication to the entertainment industry, it is difficult for fans to accept that their group didn’t receive any awards at major awards ceremonies. The organizers didn’t care about all the achievements of the idols. Fans think that music award ceremonies are becoming more and more corrupt, losing accuracy and fairness.
