Min Hee-jin’s Various “Sexual Controversies” Resurfaces amid HYBE-ADOR Feud
The CEO of NewJeans’ agency, ADOR, is known to have faced various controversies including sexualization of minors in the past.
As Min Hee-jin came under fire for her recent remarks about ILLIT, TWS, RIIZE, and even BTS copying her works, old controversies of the CEO are resurfacing.
Among those, the most controversial issues related to Min Hee-jin are her concepts that allegedly contain sexualization of minors. Below is a breakdown of these controversies:
SHINee
Back in early 2009, SM boy group SHINEE returned with their 2nd mini-album “ROMEO”, where Min Hee-jin was in charge of creative directing.
In the photo shoot for this comeback, SHINee members can be seen using child-like accessories like toys and milk bottles, at the same time wearing youthful clothes. Certain photos also show member Key shooting a water gun into his own face, while Minho appears drowsy in a lying pose, raising speculations about fantasies related to young children.
Additionally, in the concept photo for SHINee’s 4th album “Sherlock”, which was released in 2012, a photo of Minho bare in his upper half while sucking on a glass bottle roused controversies.
Red Velvet
In 2016, Red Velvet released one of their signature songs – “Russian Roulette”. However, the MV for this song, which Min Hee-jin was in charge of, include several scenes and contents related to “Lolita” – a controversial work that include themes of child sexualization.
Additionally, the clothes worn by Red Velvet members in the MV were short and bear strong resemblances to children’s outfits.
NewJeans
When NewJeans first debuted, a huge controversy broke over the girl group’s clothes in their “Attention” MV and the lyrics of their song “Cookie”.
In particular, “Cookie” is a sexual slang in English, leading to the lyrics of NewJeans’ song, which includes lines like: “Cookies I made. It’s so soft (what?) I keep thinking of you (ayy)”; “If you want it, you can get it”; “(Keep) looking at my cookie. The scent is different (taste it), one bite is not enough (uh)”; “Take it, don’t break it, I wanna see you taste it.”, to be suspected of being sexual innuendos.
Le farò da padre
Back in 2022, it was pointed out that in the photos published on Min Hee-jin’s SNS, which shows the CEO’s studio, there were photos of a blonde girl with her top off and a girl exposing her underwear by lifting her dress.
One of the girls is a character from the 1974 film “le farò da padre,” in which a middle-aged male lawyer tries to get money by kidnapping a mentally retarded minor girl, who is the daughter of a wealthy aristocrat. After that, the lawyer falls in love with the girl (and even had a sexual relationship with her), and eventually gives up the money.
The nature of the film has thus, lead to netizens suspecting Min Hee-jin of having a “pedophilia” tendency.
On the other hand, Min Hee-jin herself has taken a jab at people who brought up these controversies, insisting that they were “defamation” and “injustice”.
