“Hellbound” actor revealed panic disorder situation and required to stop filming during counseling variety show
Actor Yang Ik-joon, who played a detective role in Netflix’s “Hellbound,” recently shared about his disease.
Actor and director Yang Ik-joon appeared in Channel A’s show “Oh Eun-young’s Golden Counseling Center,” which aired on February 4th. He said he was suffering from panic disorder and said, “Don’t I think I can stand it for a few years? It’s been 13 years since I got panic disorder,” he confessed, shocking everyone. Jeong Hyung-don, an MC who also stopped working for a while due to panic disorder, said, “(I) have years of hiatus that I can’t even look back at.”
He asked for understanding and wore sunglasses to relax even during the recording. He said, “I hope I can take a pill, too,” raising concerns.
He also showed difficulty in speaking, explaining the reason was because of the abusive language and assault he had experienced since his school days. Eventually, for the first time in the show, he was the first guest to request the suspension of the broadcast. At his request, the recording was actually suspended for a while. After taking a break, he continued to get his counseling.
On the broadcast that day, he also confided about his painful family affairs.
Yang Ik-joon, who revealed that his mother gave birth to him at the young age of 19, recalled his childhood when he was hurt by his father’s domestic violence, saying, “My parents couldn’t solve problems in the family. On the contrary, they caused problems over and over again.”
He shared, “I hated my father. I just want to ask ‘Why did you treat my mom like that?'”
Regarding this, Oh Eun-young advised, “You had a painful childhood with too many wounds. You give a lot of strength to the audience through movies, so I think you need to promote it more in your own life.”
Yang Ik-joon, who debuted in 2002 through the movie “Conduct Zero“, made his face known by appearing in a number of works such as “Arahan” and “Our Happy Time“. He gained domestic and international attention for his directing and starring in the 2008 film “Breathless“. Recently, he played the role of Detective Jin Kyung-hoon in Netflix’s drama “Hellbound” and received great love for his impressive performance.
