From Sandara Park to Purple Kiss Swan, girl group member-turned-soloists’ summer comeback battle

Female soloists of all generations, from "big sister" Sandara Park to Sistar Soyou, GFRIEND Yerin, Choi Yena and "rookie" Purple Kiss Swan, will participate in this summer's comeback battle. They all have one thing in common: They are solo singers from girl groups.

Sandara Park, who celebrated her 14th debut anniversary, returned to her main job as a “singer” after a long time. Sandara Park, a member of 2NE1, will be active as a soloist this time. Sandara Park, who appeared on various entertainment programs such as YouTube’s “Unnies Without Appetite” and MBC’s “King of Mask Singer”, will release an album on July 12th. It is Sandara Park’s first solo album in 6 years since 2NE1’s activities. She heralded active activities, including opening an official TikTok account.

Sistar Soyou also announced her comeback in July. It is a quick return in 3 months since the digital single “Farewell Everyday” in April. Soyou said, “It’s my first album release in a year and 3 months since the first mini album ‘Day & Night’. I’m putting my heart and soul into preparing for the final stage of the album.

Yerin also shared the news of her comeback after a year. Yerin, who debuted as a member of girl group GFRIEND in 2015, made her solo debut in May last year by releasing the album “ARIA”. Yerin released a teaser video through her agency Bill Entertainment’s official YouTube channel, raising fans’ expectations.

Choi Yena from IZ*ONE will release her second single album “HATE XX” on June 27th. Choi Yena, who is about to make a comeback 5 months after her previous work “Love War”, will also debut in Japan in August and expand her activities overseas.

Purple Kiss Swan announced her solo debut on July 2nd. Swan showed outstanding singing skills when appearing on KBS2’s “Immortal Songs”, MBC’s “King of Mask Singer” and JTBC’s “Begin Again Open Mic”. Her agency RBW Entertainment said, “With the release of the first single ‘Twenty (Prod. Jung Key), Swan is expected to become a ‘4th-generation representative vocalist’ that attracts public attention.

What kind of results will those who go beyond “groups” to “stand alone” achieve through their solo activities? Attention is focused on who will be the female soloist who will laugh in this summer’s comeback battle.
