BLACKPINK’s new album “BORN PINK” through the reviews of music critics 

BLACKPINK achieved outstanding results with their 2nd full album “BORN PINK”. Now, attention is being focused on the album’s score on music critics platforms. 

At 9AM (KST) on September 16th, BLACKPINK’s 2nd full album “BORN PINK” was released, and has since set various records and achievements. According to Hanteo, “BORN PINK” is the best-selling Kpop album in the first day for a female artist with over 1 million copies sold, breaking the previous record of aespa. In addition, the title song ‘Shut Down” manage to get into Top 10 of domestic music charts right after release, recording 16.061 unique listeners on Melon within the first hours.

In the first day, “BORN PINK” also received 33.1 million streams on Spotify – the highest record in history for a Kpop girl group. At the same time, the title song “Shut Down” debuted at No.1 on Spotify Global’s Daily Song Chart with over 6.6 million streams, while the pre-release single “Pink Venom” debuted at No.2 with over 5 million streams. As of the moment, BLACKPINK is the first and only Kpop girl group to ever top the Spotify Global chart with 2 songs at the same time. 

At the same time, “BORN PINK” has also earned various love from international music critic platforms. In particular, according to Metacritic, which compiles scores from other platforms, “BORN PINK” has so far received high scores on various sites, including Rolling Stone, AllMusic, Clash Music, and Sputnikmusic. If Allmusic described the new album as brimming “with the confidence and intent accumulated over years of dealing with fame, the spotlight, and detractors”, then Rolling Stone called it “bristling with brassy uptempo confidence” and “the great pop album they’ve always had in them.”

In addition, Clash Music also has a lot of praises for BLACKPINK, hailing their new album as “a ball of fire” which “gifts fans a mixture of commanding hip-hop tracks, satisfying pop tracks and affecting piano ballads.”

However, Sputnikmusic dampened down the average score with its own assessment of 54/100, commenting that “BORN PINK” “is a slight improvement overall” and “a tad more cohesive” compared to the group’s debut album. 

With the 4 aforementioned reviews, “BORN PINK” currently has a Metascore of 79/100, which is high enough to be impressive. As more critics comments are on their way to come, “BORN PINK” is also set out to attain even more impressive achievements with its own irresistible charm.
