BIGBANG’s T.O.P shed tears when selected as Korea’s first civilian to go to the moon

BIG BANG T.O.P (Choi Seung Hyun) will join the Moon travel project launched by Elon Musk’s company.

In an official press release on December 9th, T.O.P’s representative said, “T.O.P will be participating in the Moon travel project ‘#dearMoon’ by Space X, which was founded by Elon Musk, in 2023. This project will be carried out by 8 crew members, including T.O.P, with the aim of sending civilians to the moon for the first time.”

T.O.P said, “It’s my honor to be selected as a member of ‘#dearMoon’ project crew”, adding “I’ve always had a great fantasy about the universe and the moon ever since I was young. I’m looking forward to seeing how I would grow through this project. I want to feel new stimulation and enlightenment”, revealing the reason why he applied for the project.

T.O.P continued, “I’m not afraid to go to the moon at all. I feel proud and responsible as the first person to represent my country and be the first Korean to go to the moon”, adding “I hope ‘#dearMoon’ project will inspire the whole world and give hope to many people. I want to make you feel that anything will be possible if you dare to dream.”

‘#dearMoon” project is part of an art project organized by renowned entrepreneur Yusaku Maezawa, founder of Japan’s largest online clothing shopping mall Zozotown and e-commerce company Start Today. It will send a spacecraft developed by Space X to fly around the moon for about 7 days.

Earlier, Yusaku Maezawa made headlines when he announced the project and bought all 8 seats in the spacecraft. In March last year, he launched open recruitment for crew members to fly to the moon. More than 1 million people from 249 countries and regions reportedly applied for the recruitment.

Yusaku Maezawa, who will also join ‘#dearMoon’ project crew, revealed two qualifications for the selection of crew members. He said, “I’ll pick people whom I consider artists. They should be able to grow significantly through this space travel to help humanity and society and be willing to support fellow crew members.”
