Actors reveals their reasons for not wanting to take part in variety and entertainment shows

The actors’ stated reason is to focus more on their expertise, which is acting.

As more programs are blossoming on YouTube and OTT broadcast, more actors are invited to appear on appealing programs. Nonetheless, despite a lowered barrier, these actors remain within their expertise of acting. When asked of the reason, most of them said they did not want to get involved, and wanted to reduce their appearance on TV shows.

This seems to be a widespread trend, as stars who appeared on TV shows regularly in the past has rarely made appearance again. This includes Tae – Hye – Ji trio (Kim Tae Hee, Song Hye Kyo, Jeon Ji Hyun), Lee Min Ho, Jang Dong Gun or Han Seok Kyu.

In the past, Kim Tae Hee took part in various TV shows, such as MBC’s variety show “Infinite Challenge,” “KBS2’s talk show “Kim Seung Woo’s Win Win”, SBS’s talk show “Healing Camp”, and MBC’s entertainment program “Omniscient Interfering View.” However, now that she rarely accepts offers to appear on TV programs, Bi Rain, her husband, explains: “She feels too pressured to join.”

Song Hye Kyo

After Song Hye Kyo joined a solo show called “Song Hye Kyo in Paris” broadcast on Olive Channel, the actress only joined as a documentary narrator for future non-acting projects. Similarly, Jeon Ji Hyun only took part in “Park Sang Won’s Beautiful TV Faces”. After she appeared in SBS’s “Good Morning” in 2013 for an interview, the actress has not appeared in any TV programs since.

Following the success of “Boys Over Flowers,” Lee Min Ho started jumping in variety programs in Korea and Japan. However, after 2013, the actor started disappearing from those kinds of shows. On the movie premiere for “Gangnam Blues”, the actor explained that, if an actor appeared on variety shows, it would affect their acting career later on. Lee Min Ho added that he would find other ways to communicate with fans.
