Heize shares, “I became the top student in my department twice in order to get permission from my father who was against my music activities”

Singer Heize revealed that she studied hard during her college days in order to do music.

Singers Heize, Lee Mu-jin, Nucksal, CADEJO, and KARD appeared on KBS 2TV’s “Yoo Hee-yeol’s Sketchbook” as guests on July 1st.

When Heize said that she recently attended a festival and a special lecture at her alma mater, Yoo Hee-yeol asked what kind of college student Jang Da-hye (Heize’s real name) was. Heize confessed, “I was actually an inefficient student. I didn’t study hard at school but it doesn’t mean I only played. I’ve never been to MT or joined club activities.”

She continued, “I and about 5 ‘insider’ friends gathered together. We had fun and enjoyed composing music together”.

Yoo Hee-yeol then said, “She was the top in her department twice”, drawing exclamation from the audience. When asked how many students there were in the department, Heize, who studied business administration, said there were about 300 students.

In fact, the reason why she studied hard was music. Heize said, “I had to show some kinds of achievements to my father so that he would allow me to do music”, revealing that his father was against her music activities.

In addition, Heize said, “I was the top student in my first year. So I set a condition. I said I would show my strong will. So after being the top student in the first year, I came to Seoul to do music for a promised period of time. Then I went back for another semester. I knew that I would have no regret and I realized how fun and interesting music was, so I determined to do it again. I took the top place in my class one more time and got my period for music extended. I was preparing to go down to Busan at the end of the year while doing music, then ‘Unpretty Rapstar’ contacted me.”
