YouTuber Who Defamed Jang Wonyoung Covers Face, Attends Court Due To Being Sued By Kang Daniel

"Sojang" appeared in public for the first time, attending court over charges of defaming Kang Daniel

On May 27th, Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Division 18 (Judge Lee Jun-gu) held a trial for YouTuber Park, who faces charges of violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (Defamation).

Park appeared in court wearing a pink shirt and white skirt, with a wig, glasses and a mask concealing her face. When asked about her occupation, she responded, “I run an online shopping mall.

In June 2022, Park posted videos about Kang Daniel on “Sojang”, with titles like “The Promiscuous Private Life of an Actor and Idol, the Nation’s Boyfriend”. The prosecution argued that Park made these videos with the intent to slander.

While Park’s lawyer acknowledged the creation and posting of the videos, they denied any intention to defame, “There was no intention to defame; Park believed the information to be true.”

The court questioned if Park was aware that the information was false. The lawyer responded, “We couldn’t verify it. It’s the prosecution’s duty to prove the falsehood.

Dispatch asked Park several questions as she left the court, including, “Why have you changed your name multiple times?“, “Why did you continue posting videos despite legal warnings from agencies?” and “Did you buy a house with YouTube earnings?

Park covered her face with the wig and did not answer. Her lawyer intervened, stating, “We will address these in the next hearing.

Park faces several upcoming trials. She is involved in a civil lawsuit with IVE’s Jang Wonyoung and her agency Starship Entertainment, who won the first trial.

Park appealed, but the mediation attempt in the second trial failed, leading to ongoing legal battles.

Additionally, Park is facing criminal charges. On this day, the Incheon District Prosecutor’s Office indicted Park without detention on charges of defamation and insult under the Information and Communications Network Act.

From October 2021 to June last year, Park allegedly posted 23 defamatory videos targeting celebrities on the “Sojang” YouTube channel.

Meanwhile, it is reported that Park earned over 250 million won from these videos over 2 years, using the earnings to acquire real estate and accumulate wealth.
