“Wonderland” director “Park Bo-gum and Suzy seem close enough to raise dating suspicions”

Director Kim Tae-yong mentioned Park Bo-gum and Suzy, who are attracting attention with their extraordinary chemistry

On the morning of June 3rd, Director Kim Tae-yong, who directed the movie “Wonderland“, met SPOTV News at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul to discuss various aspects of the film.

Director Kim commented on the chemistry between Suzy and Park Bo-gum, which has led to speculation that they might be a real couple: “The scenario doesn’t have a strong dramatic tension but maintains an emotional tension. The key is whether the characters can emotionally communicate with a machine. When Suzy and Park Bo-gum first met, I told them, ‘You two will need to become much closer than you think.’

He continued, “We did a lot of rehearsals, especially for the phone call scenes. They had to act while looking at the screen, so we rehearsed extensively. Their chemistry, which oscillated between friends and lovers, was evident both on and off the screen. As a director, this made me very happy because all I had to do was capture their natural interactions on film. When actors don’t have chemistry, it can be challenging for a director, but these two naturally displayed great chemistry.”

He added, “Just having the two of them together was enough. Both actors are kind and sincere, which added to the synergy in ‘Wonderland’. As the film also includes parts with Jung Yu-mi, Choi Woo-sik and Tang Wei, physically, Suzy and Park Bo-gum only share about a third of the screen time. I felt grateful that the actors took initiative in their roles.”

In response to the question “Some say that the two are really dating“, Director Kim smilingly said, “They do seem close enough to raise such suspicions. I don’t know; they might be fooling me. But I don’t think so. They seem like very close friends.

“Wonderland” is a story about reuniting with a departed family member or lover via video call. The film is set to be released on June 5th.
