“Soulmate” Theatrical Re-release Under Discussion Due to “Byeon Woo-seok Syndrome”

On May 24th, the distribution company NEW confirmed, “We are in discussions with theaters about re-releasing ‘Soulmate‘. The request came from the theaters first, and we are currently coordinating specific schedules.”

“Soulmate”, which was released in March last year, deals with the essence of human relationships through 14 years of meeting and parting, friendship and love, longing and jealousy between two friends who first met at the age of 13. The film attracted a total of 230,000 viewers.

However, a year after its release, tvN’s Monday-Tuesday drama “Lovely Runner” starring Byeon Woo-seok and Kim Hye-yoon gained explosive popularity, establishing Byeon Woo-seok as the next-generation romantic comedy king. This surge in popularity has reignited interest in “Soulmate”, leading to discussions about its re-release.

“Soulmate” is a remake of the Chinese film of the same name and was filmed in 2020, premiering in theaters 3 years later. The film captures Byeon Woo-seok’s last moments in his twenties, as he was born in 1991.

Meanwhile, Byeon Woo-seok, who is currently enjoying explosive popularity through “Lovely Runner”, is increasing his engagement with viewers by appearing on various entertainment shows.

He appeared on SBS’s “Running Man” on May 12th, tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block” on May 22nd, and is set to appear on YouTube channel TEO’s “Salon Drip 2” with Kim Hye-yoon on May 27th. Additionally, he will be featured on singer-actress Hyeri’s YouTube content “Hyell’s CLUB” on May 31st.
